Philipp is a research affiliate with LBNL working on the electrification of the transport sector with the Sustainable Energy Systems Group. He comes to Berkeley from Fraunhofer ISI and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, both in Germany, where he is a Researcher in the Competence Center Energy Technologies and Energy Systems. His research and technical support activities broadly focus on energy technology, economics, markets, and regulation. Currently, his work is focused on heavy-duty electric vehicles and their respective infrastructure. Philipp has published over 8 journal articles, research reports, and conference papers. He advises the national parliament in Germany on energy policies and programs and is a regular speaker at conferences.
Philipp studied industrial engineering with a focus on electrical engineering and energy management. At the same time, he completed a Chamber of Industry and Commerce vocational training course as an electronics technician and completed diverse internships in Germany and abroad. He then spent 4 years primarily in the automotive industry working on the research and development of electrical powertrains before transitioning into academic research.
