Bio

Tabeel Jacob became a Berkeley Lab affiliate after receiving his Ph.D. from Oregon State University in 2020. Affiliated with the Global Cooling Efficiency Program, Tabeel’s primary efforts are focused on investigating the potential of various environment-friendly room air-conditioning technologies (e.g. hybrid evaporative vapor-compression cooling, ejector enhanced coolin, microchannel condensers, multi-stage compression, etc.), with the ultimate goal of reducing cost and increasing efficiency. He has extensive experience in the fields of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid flow relevant to HVAC&R and power generation industries. Broadly, his research interests include phase change heat transfer, thermal energy systems, waste heat recovery, and renewable energy conversion and storage. During his Ph.D., Tabeel investigated the phase-change heat transfer of low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant mixtures. He also participated in a research exchange with the Building Equipment Research Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) where he worked on condensation and boiling of refrigerants. Tabeel received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Gonzaga University. He is an advocate of sustainable engineering design to address the challenges facing the modern world.

ASHRAE Graduate Student Grant-in-Aid Award
May 2019
In 2019, Tabeel Jacob’s involvement in ASHRAE related research and society activities was recognized by ASHRAE through the Graduate Grant-In-Aid award. The award provided financial support for Tabeel’s ongoing research on condensation of refrigerant mixtures which will facilitate the transition to low global warming potential refrigerants.
