Abstract
Berkeley Lab collects, cleans, and publishes project-level data on distributed* solar and distributed solar+storage systems in the United States. The data are compiled from a variety of sources, including utilities, state agencies, local permitting agencies, property assessors, and others. The latest update contains data on roughly 5.3 million individual systems installed through the end of 2025 and provides project-level data with system technical characteristics, installed prices, permitting timelines, financing and installer level data, and customer segmentation details.
These data are made available in several formats, including:
- Data viewer
- Public data file with non-confidential data and associated user guide
- Summary slide deck
* Distributed solar is defined here to include residential systems, roof-mounted non-residential systems, and ground-mounted systems up to 5 MW-AC. Ground-mounted systems larger than 5 MW-AC are covered in Berkeley Lab’s separate U.S. Utility-Scale Solar annual data update.
