Abstract

On November 1, 2024, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory hosted a DOE workshop on data centers' growing energy demands and grid impact. Forty-nine participants, including industry and regulatory experts, explored demand flexibility strategies like load shifting and on-site energy solutions. While opportunities exist, barriers such as regulatory complexity and high costs remain. The workshop emphasized public-private collaboration, standardized approaches, and meaningful incentives to encourage the adoption of flexible practices.
